Gerbils by Arnold Dobrin. This guide to caring for gerbils as pets covers handling, feeding, housing, breeding, and enjoying them. Grades 3-6. Braille book BR 1992.

How to Raise Butterflies by Jaediker E. Norsgaard. Learn about the life cycle of the butterfly and how to raise a Monarch butterfly yourself! Grades 4-7. Braille book BR 8188.

The Josefina Story Quilt by Eleanor Coerr. In 1850, Faith and her family are going to California in a covered wagon. Josefina, her pet hen, nearly gets thrown off the wagon train for the trouble she causes. Grades P-2. Print/braille book BER 108. Braille book BR 7046.

Only Opal: The Diary of a Young Girl by Opal Whitely. The woman she lives with in an Oregon logging camp thinks Opal is a nuisance, but Opal does her best to be good and do her chores. Opal finds refuge in the woods, where she visits with her friends -- Felix Mendelssohn, a mouse, and Michael Raphael, a big tree with an understanding soul. Grades K-3. Cassette book RC 40385.

See What I Caught! by Ann Piecewicz. A teacher and nature guide shows how to catch, care for, and set free eight cold-blooded animals including toads, fireflies, crickets, and tree frogs. Grades 3-6. Braille book BR 2646.

Third Grade Pet by Judy Cox. When Rosemary's third-grade classmates are allowed to pick out a class pet, she is shocked that they choose a horrid rat! And worse, Rosemary and irritating Brian are assigned to take care of it. Grades 2-4. Braille book BR 12332.

A Very Special House by Ruth Krauss. A nonsensical story in verse about an imaginary house shared by a young boy and a turtle, a rabbit, a giant, and a lion that eats the stuffing from the chairs. Grades P-2. Braille book BR 7526.
