To continue our monthly series of book lists for youth, the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library would like to recommend the following titles:

June, 2007 -- Summer Vacation

Arthur's Family Vacation by Marc Brown. Arthur's not happy that he has to go on a beach vacation with his family instead of going to camp with his friend Buster, but once he's there, he finds plenty of fun things to do. Grades P-2. Braille book BR 9940. Large print and braille kit BER 156.

How Many Days Until Tomorrow by Caroline Janover. Josh, who has dyslexia, spends the summer on an island off the coast of Maine with his older brother and his grandparents. He enjoys his success in their outdoor adventures. Grades 4-7. Cassette book RC 53877.

The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy by Jean Birdsall. The Penderwick sisters spend their vacation at a Berkshire Mountain cottage, making friends with the owner's son, despite his snobbish mother. Grades 4-7. Cassette book RC 61553. Summer On Wheels by Gary Soto. Hector and Mando take a 5-day bike trip from East Los Angeles to Santa Monica. They manage to have all kinds of marvelous adventures along the way despite having to stay with relatives. Grades 5-8. Braille book BRW 985. Cassette book RC 44022.

How I Survived My Summer Vacation: And Lived To Write The Story by Robin Friedman. The summer before high school, Jackie's determined to finish his novel, but keeps getting distracted by his embarrassing New Age parents, his buddies, and his first girlfriend. Grades 6-9. Cassette book RC 52617.
