The Washington Talking Book & Braille Library welcomes donations from local corporations, foundations, service organizations, and individuals. The Evergreen Radio Reading Service relies on these outside sources for funding. Call the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library for more information (206) 615-0400.
NOTE: The Library currently has a great need for volunteers to help us inspect returned cassette books.
Volunteer at the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library and make a difference in someone's life! More than 400 people donate more than 32,000 hours each year to assist in making various Library programs available. In addition to brailling and taping books, volunteers produce radio programs, provide clerical support, repair equipment and cassette tapes, and carry out special projects. Current volunteer positions include, but are not limited to:
Book Inspectors open and check the contents of each cassette book; days or Wednesday evenings. Individuals or families welcome.
Machine Inspectors test cassette players and package cassette players to send to new patrons. Days and times to be arranged.
Cassette Player Technicians repair cassette players. Experience with small appliance repair is helpful, but not necessary. Days and times to be arranged.
News Readers read news from various newspapers for the Evergreen Radio Reading Service. A two-hour shift, once a week, Mondays through Saturdays.
Program Readers record items from various newspapers for the Evergreen Radio Reading Service, such as grocery ads, the Sunday Funnies, Disability News, and Shopping News. Being a Program Reader Substitute is a good position for those who like to be on call.
